Yesterday eight of us traveled to Maldonado. Today we visited a rural school for young ladies that need to learn and live in the same building during the week. We were entertained by a former student with traditional dance. We ate delicious food with the young ladies. I also met my host teacher for a walk to the most southern point of Uruguay.
Educator Reflection: This visit reminded me that schools are more than places where academic content is delivered; they are communities built through relationships, traditions, and care. The hospitality we experienced and the pride students and families showed in their school made a lasting impression on me. It reinforced the importance of creating a classroom where students feel that they belong and that what they contribute matters.
